Sunless Skies Soars past Kickstarter Goal

My posts about Kickstarter elicit two sentiments: that I’m becoming a mainstream indie gamer, as everything I want is already funded by the time I open their Kickstarter page; and that I’m not as clever a wordsmith as I think I am. Sunless Skies is the next game by developers Failbetter Games, an exploration role-playing game set in the same universe as their two main titles, Fallen London and Sunless Sea, and is currently seeking funds on Kickstarter – they’ve met their initial goal (in less than four hours!), but with stretch goals and whatnot, the sky’s the limit. Review: Zubmariner (Sunless Sea DLC)

The sea already is a harrowing place: from it sailors of old spun tales of gigantic beasts, hidden terrors and many other, unpleasant things. It stands to reason that when said location is transported to the underground – a labyrinthine cave of shifting archipelagos, hungry monsters and scheming devils – the horror would only increase; and it makes even more sense that if you go beneath this Unterzee, to the shipwreck-ridden seabed, the potential for terror and death gets even higher. And indeed, such is the case of Zubmariner, Sunless Sea‘s [Official Site] first major expansion. Continue reading “Review: Zubmariner (Sunless Sea DLC)”

Hallowindie, a list of games for your Halloween

Some of you shall celebrate Halloween by dressing in costumes of varying relevance, others will buy some games on the Steam Halloween Sale and a few will do both. If you’re in either of the latter groups, here’s a selection of games from several genres to put your Monday night into the Halloween spirit. Sunless Sea’s Zubmariner out in less than a week

And it has a trailer now, nice. Sunless Sea‘s [Official Site] Zubmariner is the first content pack for the role-playing slash exploration game by Fallen London developers Failbetter Games, and will broaden – or deepen – your frontiers by introducing the Unter-unterzee. It’s out in less than a week, on the 11th, free for those who bought the game in Early Access, almost a year after it was first announced. It Came from the Deep (Space): Leviathans expansion for Stellaris

I knew only good things could come out from Sunless Sea’s Creative Director Alexis Kennedy partnership with Paradox Interactive, and indeed my suspicions seem confirmed: Stellaris’ [Review] first expansion, titled Leviathan, has now been announced. It brings changes to Fallen Empires, independent entities and other things, and will be released alongside the Heinlein patch. Sunless Sea Zumbariner DLC zails into the unter-unterzee on October 11th

Ahoy, zailors! If you felt that you’d seen everything there was to seen in Sunless Sea‘s Unterzee, having charted its mercurial geography and established spy rings in its most populous enclaves, I bring good news: access to the depths of the underground sea will be available on the 11th of October, less than two months from now. If you hadn’t heard of the expansion, the aptly named Zubmariner will allow you to change your ship into a submarine, going beneath the water’s surface, where new horrors and oddities await. Sunless Sea creative director guest writing for Stellaris

There are two ways to start a weekend: the regular way, and the one where you find out that one of the writers for one of gaming’s best collection of words, Sunless Sea, is writing for another game you very much enjoy: Stellaris [Review]. Alexis Kennedy is the creative director and co-founder of Failbetter games, a company best known for their browser-based game Fallen London and the exploration role-playing game Sunless Sea, and will be guest writing content for Paradox’s space 4x-turned-grand strategy game.
