The specter of free DLC. The developers of Shovel Knight [Official Site], Yacht Club Games, pledged as part of their Kickstarter to release three additional campaigns featuring the bosses Shovel Knight must face. Plague of Shadows came out a bit more than a year ago, and the upcoming campaign, Specter of Torment, will feature the shadowy Specter Knight and his trusty scythe.
Plague of Shadows was everything and more of what I had expected, a lengthy expansion that added new modes and nearly doubled the amount of content to play with, and according to the developers, Specter Knight shall be no different:
“-Similar to our last update, we’ll probably go overboard too. Hey! Maybe that’s why we’re called Yacht Club Games!
-New campaigns will come with new Feats and Challenges for the new campaign character!
-We’re also working on two new modes: Body Swap and Battle Mode!
-Just like Plague of Shadows releasing with Challenge Mode, we’re planning to release one of these new modes alongside each campaign.
-Battle Mode is being designed as a single screen, multiple controller, multiplayer mode and is currently not planned to arrive on handheld versions of the game. We’ll be sure to announce if there are any changes on that front.”
Set for an early 2017 release, Specter of Torment will be followed by the King Knight’s campaign, though release information for the latter is sparse. At the meager price of free, there’s little not to like. You can check out the trailer below while you wait for its release, or install Shovel Knight once more to see how its Plague Knight fares if you haven’t had the opportunity to play his campaign – I highly recommend it.
